The Bachelor of Communication program covers all areas of creative communication, enabling you to understand how your field of study is connected to other disciplines. Through self-directed, team and problem-based learning strategies that require active participation in the community, you will learn to value ethical conduct, intellectual integrity, diversity and social justice principles.
This course requires successful completion of 240 credit points which includes twelve core subjects, seven major subjects taken as a Communication specialisation and four elective subjects which can be chosen from any discipline available at Sydney City Campus.
At Sydney City Campus, you can complete your three-year bachelor’s degree in as little as two years and enter the workforce sooner. The Bachelor of Communication consists of 23 subjects. With our flexible academic calendar, you can study 12 subjects in one year over three trimesters. However, we recommend that you undertake a maximum of 3 subjects per trimester so that your study load is not too demanding. You will have less downtime between trimesters so a lighter study load will help you to have a better chance at passing all of your subjects.
Advertising is a dynamic and diverse profession, encompassing all forms of media from billboards, television and newspapers to internet search engines.
This major will give you a thorough grounding in general principles of communication, as well as practical skills in advertising through internship placements and project-based learning.
The Journalism major provides you with an understanding of how communication works with real-world experience in broadcast, print and online journalism. You will develop journalistic skills for newspapers, magazines, internet, radio, television, corporate and community media contexts, and come to understand news team culture and management.

The Public Relations major provides you with valuable skills and knowledge in consultancy, media relations, event management, issues and crisis management and campaign development. The course focuses on the role of the public relations practitioner or adviser, and provides a theoretical framework of the industry. The major also develops a strategic understanding of the public sphere from national and international viewpoints.

The Bachelor of Communication will provide you with the opportunity to study subjects that integrate theory and practice through problem-based learning and engagement with the local community. Students studying Advertising or Public Relations will be required to complete an internship during their studies, this is optional for those undertaking the Journalism major.
Pathway options are available for students who may not qualify for direct entry into a degree program at Western Sydney University. Complete a diploma at SIBT and enter the second year of your university studies.
