Arriving

Arriving

The guide below contains important information about arriving in Australia so that you can commence your studies. Please also read the Study NSW website for further information about arriving in NSW.

Before Travelling to Australia

Ensure that your passport is valid for a minimum of 6 months before you arrive. You must also have a valid student visa, which can be obtained from an Australian Diplomatic Mission in your country. To apply for a visa, you will need the following:

  • Your Letter of Offer
  • Your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) after fees and charges have been paid

You will need the following documents for your arrival:

  • Airline tickets
  • Passport with visa
  • Receipts of related payments e.g. health cover
  • Academic transcripts (either original or certified)
  • English translations of medication prescriptions that you are bringing with you
  • Personal identification, including English translation e.g. driver’s licence.

You will also need to look into accommodation before you arrive as the housing market can get quite competitive. An option is to do a short-term stay before long for something permanent.

The average rent in Sydney is about $700, but can be much higher or less depending on the suburb you stay in and the accommodation type e.g. apartments or single rooms. To make a booking, you will need to contact the accommodation provider directly. Please also let us know your residential address within 7 days of arriving in Australia.

Arriving in Australia

Once you arrive in Sydney, you will see a multitude of different transport options to leave the airport. Taxis, trains, buses and rideshares are all around you.

From Sydney International Airport Station, you can catch a train and get off at Museum Station, which is a short walk from our campus. You can also get off at Central Station which can connect you to all other Sydney stations. To travel on Sydney’s train lines, you will need to purchase an Opal card, or use your contactless credit, debit or mobile device. You will need to tap on at your origin point and tap off at your destination. If you would like to purchase an Opal card, you can visit a retailer at the airport.

To plan your trip on Sydney’s trains, you can visit the Transport for NSW or download the TripView app.

If you are an international student under the age of 18, then you must:

  • Live with a parent, legal guardian or person who is over the age of 21 and is nominated by your parent or legal guardian, or;
  • Provide evidence of guardianship arrangements

If you are under the age of 18 and do not live with parent, legal guardian or person nominated by your parents, then you must speak with our campus Student Services Manager before you change accommodation or welfare arrangements. This is an Australian Government requirement.
